FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions -

Q: Where will the MIT Mini Maker Faire be held?

A: The MIT Mini Maker Faire will be held in the North Court (the grassy area between the Stata Center and the Koch Institute). Map: https://whereis.mit.edu/?go=G16

Q: Yom Kippur is on that day and we cannot attend. Please be more considerate in the future.

A: We apologize for the inconvenience. This year, there were a great many factors that led us to schedule the Mini Maker Faire on October 4. We will try to schedule next year’s event such that it doesn’t conflict with holidays.

Q: Is my submission valid for the MIT Mini Maker Faire?

A: If your submission fits in the general STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) umbrella, then your submission would most likely be accepted! Please go ahead and fill out our "Call for Makers" form.

Q: I submitted a Call for Makers form and haven’t been contacted yet--what’s happening?

A: The Call for Makers form will be open until midnight on Monday, September 15th. The staff would like to review all forms before making any final decisions. All potential Makers will be notified of their status by midnight on Thursday, September 18th.

Q: Where can I park?

A: There will be limited parking at the Albany Street garage. We recommend taking the Red Line to Kendall/MIT if possible.

Albany St. garage: https://whereis.mit.edu/?go=N4

A list of other public parking lots can be found here: http://web.mit.edu/facilities/transportation/parking/visitors/public_parking.html

Q: Who should I contact if I want to be a sponsor?

A: Thank you so much! Please complete the Contact Us submission form. Our Sponsorship team will get back to you very soon!

Q: My question wasn’t answered. What now?

A: Please complete the Contact Us submission form. We'll get back to you as soon as possible!

Q: The North Court is outside. What happens if it rains?

A: If the MIT weather gods decide to make it rain, that’s okay! Unless requested otherwise, all Makers and Events will be under tents.

Q: I am signed up to be a volunteer.  Where and when do I have to be there?

A: The Volunteer Coordinator for the event will be sending everyone who signed up to be a volunteer an email on or before September 29 with a personalized schedule and your team name along with instructions about what to do when you arrive, where you will meet up with your team captain for orientation, get your lunch and receive your volunteer t-shirt.  If you have questions that need to be answered before that email goes out, please contact Peggy Conant, the Volunteer Coordinator at pconant@mit.edu.

Q: Turns out I can’t be a volunteer this year but I signed up.  Who do I contact?

A: If you cannot make it, please do let us know so that we can make sure to find someone to cover the shifts for which we had you scheduled.  If for any reason you cannot make it, please contact Peggy Conant, the Volunteer Coordinator at pconant@mit.edu.

Q: Do volunteers get free parking at MIT?

A: Unfortunately we cannot offer free parking to makers, volunteers or visitors.  See “Where can I park?” above.

Q: Will there be food for Makers at the Faire?

A: There will be food trucks offering a variety of foods on site where makers and visitors may purchase food during the course of the day.  The Faire will not be providing food for the Makers.
